Personas

Personas represents the various social masks that we wear as we seek belonging and community, and the deeply human connection that we all share in our most fundamental physiology of our bone structure—underneath every mask, every skin, is a skeleton uniquely human and uniquely singular in its own structure. This artwork is meant to be engaged by the public and was inspired by the art of the Mexican political cartoonist, José Guadalupe Posada. Personas is a play on the English word “persona,” understood as a social identity we enact, but also a character we play in the theatre of our lives, and the Spanish word “persona,” meaning person, individual, human. Personas is an ode to all that unites us in our most basic humanity, especially our capacity to hide behind a mask.
